Poulan Lawn & Garden Tools trace back to 1944 when Claude C. Poulan, while supervising World War II prisoners as they cut pulpwood in East Texas, devised a way to overcome the shortcomings of the conventional chain saw.

Poulan sold his business in 1962, and it became the Beaird-Poulan Saw Company. St. Louis based Emerson Electric Company bought the business in the late '70s and merged it with another company that had an interesting beginning: Weed Eater Inc.

AB Electrolux was formed in January 1997 by uniting three sister companies: American Yard Products, Frigidaire, and Poulan-WeedEater. With 18,000 employees and 14 manufacturing facilities, Electrolux Home Products of North America manufactures and distributes many brands, including Poulan, Poulan Pro, Weed Eater, Electrolux, Frigidaire, Gibson, Tappan, and White-Westinghouse.
